SPACE CHIMPS

SPACE CHIMPS might just be the dumbest little game I've ever written. But, like the old adage goes, you can't spell dumbest without best.

From start to finish, concept to final execution, SPACE CHIMPS took about six hours to put together. It started with a discussion in the Chilluminati Podcast community, following their most recent episode on the Roswell crash incidents. I'll let them speak for themselves on the matter, but one theory that was floated in the discussion afterwards was the idea that the "alien" bodies supposedly recovered from the crash site was actually chimpanzee "astronauts" from either the US or the Soviet space program that had crashed by the town. Whether or not the theory is valid, it birthed a seed of an idea in my mind. Chimp astronauts. That'd be one helluva game, wouldn't it? So, I got to work.

I decided a few things almost instantly. Firstly, this could not be a very serious game, but also not too wacky, as far as "chimp astronauts" could be not-wack. To that end, it carries with it a stoner metal-inspired aesthetic, particularly Clutch's Spacegrass and Escape from the Prison Planet.

Secondly, it was going to be short. I've tried my hand at making short games before, and it hasn't gone great in the past. I knew that I wanted a one-page version of this game. I've been working more directly in Affinity Publisher as of late, skipping out on writing in GDocs, so that's what I decided to do from the beginning here. There is a text-only version available for free, but due to a large number of tables and such, it clocks in at three pages.

Overall, I'm just very pleased with myself that I could make this a thing. Obviously, it still needs playtesting to make sure that the numbers are doable. If you do end up playing it, let me know!
